Valerie came to me looking for a dress as a wedding guest to a Christmas wedding. We decided on a red velvet wrap dress with some seventies style detailing. As the fabric is so rich looking, the less detail the better.
I hadn’t used velvet before so it was a lesson it itself. It has to be cut all in the same direction as each angle is a different shade of wine.
The ruched bodice and puff sleeve give the dress some shape whilst the circular hem and split sleeve let the fabric flow.
The buttons are also covered in velvet so it didn’t detract from the dress.
I chose a luxurious silk satin lining as you can see it as you walk plus it feels nice against the skin.
It was all finished off with a silk braided tie belt.
It was definitely the most tactile dress I have ever made and I would definitely use velvet again.
