Hepburn - Draping 3

No rest for the wicked. After finishing the Ava dress, I got back to completing five bridesmaid dress for an upcoming wedding. I am dying to show them to you but they are under wraps until the big day. In the mean time, I’ll share what I am working on next; the Hepburn dress.

I was inspired by the corset based gowns worn by the film stars of the 1950’s. These gowns always had a lot of detail on the bodice and a flowing skirt. Starting with a corseted foundation, I draped, slashed and pinned strips of pleated fabric to see how they reacted to the curves of the body.

Trying out different widths of pleats.

The main areas I focused on were the bust and the waist. Accentuating the bust and nipping in the waist gives the fifties silhouette I was looking for. These are just a few variations of how the pleats will go. Then I plan on letting the pleats flow from the waist that will look great when walking and dancing.
