Diary: Catch up

Man, it’s already February! You’ve probably wondered where I have been the last two months. I decided to take a proper break over Christmas so I could start afresh in the new year. The marathon movie watching may influence my designs in the future from ‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘American Hustle’ to ‘Swingers’ and ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’.

A happy change from visiting London for exhibitions, Dublin city provided two on my own doorstep: ‘Eileen Gray: Architect, Designer, Painter’ at the Irish Museum of Modern Art and ‘Costumes Parisian, fashion plates from 1912 to 1914’ at the Chester Beatty (still on until March 30th).

Going offline cleared the head too and I finally got around to starting my ‘inspiration book’. After decluttering a ton of fashion magazines and only cutting out what I wanted to keep, I stuck them into a scrapbook that I can reference whenever I need some design ideas.

In the studio, there is steam coming from my sewing machine with five bridesmaid dresses and three wedding dresses on the go. (Now you know why I took the Christmas break.)  Until the wedding takes place, I won’t post pictures so as not to ruin the surprise but I can keep you posted on the wedding dresses.  I am trying out some traditional and non traditional styles so I can’t wait to hear your opinion.

I am between dresses at the moment so pondering whether to start on beading, lace, chiffon or corsetry. Decisions!
