Bridal: Ava

I have many dresses on the go at the moment but I can finally share the first one I have completed. I have recently been inspired by geometry, in part because of the Eileen Gray exhibition I visited in November. The simple lines gave a strong shape and silhouette to her work so I applied geometric lines to the curves of the body to see how the reacted.

The first design is called the Ava Dress, named after Ava Gardner. (I’m planning to name all of my dresses after old Hollywood actresses.)

The draping on the sides were formed by sewing curved edges to straight edges and seeing how they reacted. The lines where the pieces meet follow in an infinite line around the dress.

I couldn’t resist a train. It is made up of a complete circle so it has a lot of impact whilst walking up that aisle.

And to finish, the closure; a concealed zip to let the design be the focus.
